Watch LCD Soundsystem’s Three And A Half Hour Last Show From MSG 4/2/11

Apparently Pitchfork TV streamed LCD Soundsystem’s entire three hour, forty-one minute last performance from Madison Square Garden over the weekend. This is some epic shit here, folks. Not only did Arcade Fire show up to guest on “North American Scum,” LCD Soundsystem played the entire 45:33 mix! I guess if you’ve planned out your band’s last live show, you may as well go hog wild and play for almost four friggin’ hours. What a way to go out.

I recommend using something like SaveYoutube to download a local copy of the show just in case someone forces Pitchfork or YouTube to take down the video someday.

My Little Pony Mass Effect 2 Mashup

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Someone dubbed and edited some My Little Pony cartoon clips with Mass Effect 2 audio.

The result?

Probably the most fun you’ll have watching My Little Pony ever.

Charlie Sheen Dubbed Call of Duty Game Is Hilarious

You know, all of his quotes work surprisingly well in the context of a Call of Duty match commentary. The only way this would be better if they had live video of him playing. Although, I’m sure he would have much more… colorful language to deploy to our friends on Xbox Live.

New Radiohead Album, “The King Of Limbs” And Video Are Out

Looks like the Radiohead boys were itchy to get their new music out to the wild as they flipped the switch to download their new album, “The King of Limbs,” a day early. Before you get visions of “In Rainbows” and expect to download this album for free, know that the price of admission is $9 for an MP3 and $14 for the WAV files. You can still pre-order the “Newspaper album” (essentially a collector’s edition) version of The King Of Limbs that includes a download for a cool $48. It’s a little curious as to why they’re not selling a standard CD version or something tangible in between the $9 download and the $48 extravaganza. Consequence of Sound reports that there will be a standard CD/Vinyl release on March 28th, so why not get in on that pricing tier on their own band site?

I’ve given the 8 track album about two listens so far and I’m not exactly blown away. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, it’s just decidedly…Radiohead. Bear in mind that I’m the type of fan that likes to hear bands succeed at trying out new musical styles. That being said, I can’t really see myself springing for the Newspaper Album, despite wanting to own something collectible.

Give yourself a little sample with this video of “Lotus Flower”:

New Airborne Toxic Event Single – “Changing”

I gotta say I’m a little nonplussed by the Airborne Toxic Event’s new single, “Changing.” A couple of years ago, “Sometime Around Midnight” really connected with me. It had the perfect blend of melody with emotional gravitas and an amazing climax. (“then you walk under a streetlight…”) I still get chills listening to that song today. “Changing” just makes me think of a generic mid-nineties modern rock band.

Dead Space 2 Hand Cannon/Foam Finger Hard Core Mode Unlock

Wow, can’t say I saw this Foam Finger weapon coming as a reward for finishing Dead Space 2 on the hardest difficulty. It’s both the coolest and most annoying weapon I’ve seen in a game yet.

Bootlegged: Aloe Blacc and The Grand Scheme @ Echoplex, Los Angeles 12/3/10

I don’t know what was more surprising – the fact that Soul music is being revived in an age of autotune and chillwave indie music or the fact that most of the crowd at the Echoplex was of the decidedly hipster variety.

Scratch that, it’s Echo Park, of course it’s going to be full of hipsters.

But the neo-soul movement is definitely in effect with artists like Mayer Hawthorne gaining a sizable audience. It’s not surprising that both he and Aloe Blacc are on LA-based independent label, Stones Throw.

You may know Mr. Blacc from the theme to HBO’s How To Make It In America. It’s one of the more memorable introduction sequences in recent television history. His 1 hour set at the Echoplex didn’t disappoint either. I’m no expert on soul music, but I had a great time at Aloe’s show. With an entertaining and talented backing band, The Grand Scheme, Aloe Blacc played cuts from not only his own album, Good Things, but also injected quite a few covers into his set as well. It’s as if he knew his mainly white audience needed to hear some comfort songs to help them ease into the genre. Songs like Hall & Oates’ “Maneater” or Green Day’s “Basket Case.” He also did a Velvet Underground song and a haunting cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.”

Check out the Green Day cover clip and another video after the break.

The Decemberists Do It Again

I don’t know what it is about these guys, but they seem to put out great music every go round. One listen of the new single “Down By The Wate” and I was immediately hooked.

Bootlegged: DJ Shadow Shadowsphere @ House of Blues, New Orleans 11/7/10

You read that correctly – “New Orleans.” Normally I don’t venture out of Los Angeles much, but on this occasion I had the opportunity to catch a show at the House of Blues in New Fucking Orleans, so I had to take it. As luck would have it, DJ Shadow was in town and I had never seen him before.

I’ve heard mixed things about DJ Shadow’s live set and while the Shadowsphere show is pretty cool with its visuals and unique “sphere” set, strip that away and you have a fairly “meh” show. It’s nothing against Shadow, there’s just only so much you can do as a DJ in a live setting without getting guest stars or showering the crowd with free narcotics.

That being said, there ARE visuals and they’re pretty neat. One particular graphic made the sphere look like the Death Star which was a great “HA!” moment.

Shadow also premiered a new song from his upcoming album which is sort of a big deal since album length original material from him has been few and far between since 1996’s Entroducing…
